20 girls called him as he 'proposed' to them

Actor's stolen identity on matrimonial sites led girls to flood him with calls; miffed, he filed a police complaint

Small-time actor Sameep Vyas, who maybe recalled for his negative lead in Hindi film Gumshuda, has been 'in demand' lately, with over 20 girls calling him about his alleged marriage proposals to them. After he realised that some fraudster(s) had made fake profiles using his name to befriend girls, he filed a complaint with the Thane Cyber Crime Cell.

Who's that? Fraudsters faked actor Sameep Vyas's profile using his
name to befriend girls

Over the past few days, Vyas had been at the receiving end of a number of phone calls from women who said he had promised to marry them. The first call he received was from a Delhi girl on April 19. "I know you. I need to talk to you," she said. She then asked if his name was Arjun Oberoi. When Vyas said no, the girl told him about his profile and pictures on two wedding websites. Vyas realised that someone had been using his name to talk to girls.

Since then, the actor has been flooded with a number of calls. He said, "Initially, I ignored the calls. But when some girls directed me to the profiles on the wedding portals, I realized what was happening. I was completely shocked as they had used my picture and details."

He added, "Some girls even told me that they had paid up to Rs 15,000 they for sundry wedding ceremonies."
He feels that it is a racket run by a gang. The impostor(s) created accounts on these website under the names of Siddharth Kapoor and Arjun Oberoi using his photographs and personal information.

"The worst thing is that the accounts on the two websites are of paid members. Why do they not check credentials before giving the people membership?" Vyas said. The actor has filed a complaint (copy with MiD DAY) with the cyber cell of the Thane branch.  The officer on duty said, "We are looking into the matter and cannot comment. Sameep has lodged a formal complaint against an unknown person with the Cyber Crime department, Thane on April 21..
