Another beauty queen for Salman?

If rumours are to be believed Miss Universe 2010  Ximena Navarreto is making her Bollywood debut opposite Salman Khan in David Dhawan's next Partner 2.

The Mexican model, who is on a 10-day tour to india to promote designer Sanjana Jon's Celebrate The Girl Child Campaign, said in an interview that she is a huge fan of Salman Khan and expressed her desire to act in Bollywood movies.

A reliable industry source reveals, "Ximena will romance Salman Khan in the Partner sequel. The makers were looking for the female lead in the film and felt that Ximena fits the bill but she will have to learn Hindi and some Bollywood dance moves for her role.

The model recently met Salman and has already started taking lessons in Hindi.

The New York-based fashion designer Sanjana Jon will style her clothes for the film.

Sanjana, who is close to both Salman and Ximena, has been instrumental in making this happen."

Both Salman Khan and the director DDavid Dhawan didn't revert to our repeated text messages.............

PC could only think of Shaid during raid

The sudden income tax raid at her residence in Mumbai's Versova area and the presence of actor Shahid Kapoor there was a double whammy for actress Priyanka Chopra.

The actress, however, declined any tax evasion, and said because Shahid stays at a stone's throw from her house, he was the only person she could think of in such an unfortunate situation.

"The only person who stays with me is my mom, who was not present at home and Shahid stays three minutes away from my place. So he was the only person I could call up then. So he was there," Priyanka told reporters at a press conference here Monday night.

When asked about the reported discovery of Rs.6 crore from her residence, she said: "My CA (chartered accountant) has given an official statement regarding that and personally my spokesperson has given you an official statement. It's shocking the way unsubstantiated news is making rounds as authentic news."

"You believe in rumours when they run it as front-page news, without checking its authenticity. Neither you ask the accused person whether the allegations are true or not, nor do you substantiate it with any paper work."

"I had never experienced anything like this before. Whatever happened has deeply hurt me and deeply affected me. I have already said whatever I had to say and we have continuously cooperated with the investigating authorities."

"As far as the discovery of Rs.6 crore from my house, neither I had so much of money under my mattress nor I have seen so much of money together in my life," she said.

The media then wanted to know even as she is one of the highest taxpaying actors in Bollywood, why did she come under the income tax scanner.

"As people say that it happens with big stars. I still feel proud that I am counted among the few highest tax paying bollywood stars and hope to be so as long God continues to give me the opportunity," Priyanka said.

Priyanka plays wife to dad's pal Annu Kapoor

Actress Priyanka Chopra who journeys through the life of a woman from her 20s through 65 years of age in her next release '7 Khoon Maaf', says the film is a kind of black comedy which Bollywood has not seen in a long time.

"This is not a drama or suspense thriller. There is humour and wickedness.. a black comedy not seen for a long time," Priyanka told reporters here last night. The Vishal Bhardwaj directed film is inspired by Ruskin Bond's short story, 'Susanna's Seven Husbands'.

Priyanka described her lead character Susanna as "difficult and complicated." "'7 Khoon..' is Susanna's journey to find love. Ageing on screen was the most difficult part. I modelled my older look on the physical appearance of my mother," the 28-year-old actress said.

Priyanka said the experience of working with Naseeruddin Shah,Irfan khan and Annu Kapoor, who play three of her seven husbands in the movie, was "nerve wrecking".

"I had never worked with them before. Annu Kapoor is a friend of my father but I had not worked with him. I did a workshop with Naseeruddin shah before the film went on floors. I had to learn a lot from Irrfan as an actor," she recalled.

"We shot the first schedule with Irrfan where Susanna's age is 37-40 years. I was so nervous and relied a lot on my director," she said. The 'Dostana' star said she was most compatible with John Abraham as she knew him well having done three films together.

"I also shared good rapport with Neil Nitin Mukesh and Vivan during the shoot," she said. To a question on initimate scenes in the film, Priyanka said the film was based on marriage. "There can be no marriage without intimacy. Love and pain come with several other emotions. I have tried to enact them to the best of my comfort."

Rishi Kapoor busier than Ranbir Kapoor?

Rishi kapoor is shooting for four films...

Actor Rishi Kapoor recently won the Best Actor Award (Critics) at the 56th Filmfare Awards for his performance in 'Do Dooni Chaar'. The Kapoor was mighty pleased at bagging this, while his son hosted the event. Rishi told us, "Unfortunately, I came in late, and didn't get to see Ranbit host, but I do hear that my son has been up to a lot of mischief," laughed Rishi.

However, talk about what we can expect from him in 2011, and he is quick to tell us. "There is Patiala House for starters. It'll be the next movie you'll see me in," said the actor. Rishi also confirmed that he is indeed a part of Karan Johar's 'Agneepath' remake. Then there's 'Housefull 2' and Rishi may just be a judge on the Indian version of the the international reality show 'X-factor'.

All this brought us to thext question: Who is busier, Rishi or son Ranbir kapoor? "Let's put it this way, the entire family is busy!" he said, his shoulders suddenly broadened.

Sunny to make 'Yamla Pagla Deewana' a cult product

The success of 'Yamla Pagla Deewana' has encouraged actor Sunny Deol no end.

The man is inspired to do more work, produce more films and even attempt a  Sequel to 'Yamla...'. When we caught up with Sunny, he told us, "We are happy that we could resurrect our production banner. We are happy that the Deols are back in the market, and we are not giving up!"

Talk about sequel plans to 'Yamla Pagla...' and he is quick to say, "We want to build this film into a brand of sorts. We expect to come up with a sequel once every two years. The sequel will have its own sequel as well. We are going to take our time in working out the script and minute details," said Sunny.

In fact, the Deols have already discussed their next project. It'll be called 'Double Shrouble' and though Dharmendra's participation isn't confirmed, Bobby and Sunny will surely take the story forward. Well, we're going to see more of the Deols in that case. And we guess, no one's complaining.

'Sallu, SRK face to face at Aamir's bash

Amir khan has done something that will certainly raise alot of eyebrows

He is extremely fond of his bhanja, Imran Khan for whom he is hosting a wedding reception party at Taj Land's End on February 5.

The party will be special for how many warring factions will be under one roof though.

Aamir has personally invited sibling rivals Mukesh and Anil Ambani. If that is not enough, he has personally invited Sharukh Khan and Salman Khan; everyone knows the equation between these two.

A source says, "Aamir has always wanted Salman and Shah Rukh to patch up. If you recall, he spent the entire night shuttling between Mannat (SRK's residence) and Galaxy (Salman's residence) when their fight took place at Katrina Kaif's birthday party two years ago.

This could be just the occasion he might go the extra mile and make them warm up to one another."

And what if either of them don't attend or come at different timings? "How can that be ascertained now?" said the source. "Of course, most people from the industry have been invited.

Add this to Imran and Avantika's close family members and the guest list looks rather impressive."

Come to think of it, it's isn't as if Aamir and SRK as the best of buddies. But then again, this is patch-up season..

Kareena, Shahid patch up

A few months ago, they could barely stand each other. But this is a sign that things have indeed changed. At the recently concluded Filmfare Awards former lovers Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor spoke to each other rather fondly.

It should be noted that when the two met two years ago at an award function and almost bumped into one another, they had turned the other way to avoid any contact.

But the season it seems is shifting. With both, Kareena and Shahid settled in steady relationships, the former with  Saif ali khan and the latter with Priyanka Chopra, it seems that they are ready to let what betided remain a thing of the past.

This is how it happened: when Kareena was walking out after her performance was over, on her way out she noticed Shah Rukh Khan and Shahid having a conversation. In another time, Kareena would have just brushed past (and then perhaps have explained why she did this to SRK, who is a good friend).

But not this time. She went up and said hi to both the parties. Shahid was pleasantly surprised. The conversation continued for a short while. When contacted, Saif picked up the phone and said, "Yes, Kareena did speak to Shahid at Filmfare. They met as one should."

It should be noted that barely a few weeks ago, an excerpt from KJo's Koffee with Karan had Priyanka scoffing that she didn't think that Kareena would have laptop (the naughty director was stoking Chops for an aside, given the cold vibes the two share).

To this, Kareena had responded with something like, "I may not have a laptop but at least accept that I am beautiful." All these catty comments could well be a thing of the past, if what transpired between Sasha and Bebo, and Saif's own mature handling of this rapprochement, is anything to go by. Let bygones be bygones. That's what makes life truly beautiful!

Make-up Season Continues

Meanwhile, Bebo and Sallu have buried the hatchet too. The hidden truth is that they were just cordial to each other when they worked last in Main Aur Mrs Khanna (2009).

Apparently, during the making of Main Aur Mrs Khanna, Sallu and Bebo would only exchange a bland 'hello'. "Kareena was supposed to do David Dhawan's Yeh Hai Jalwa (2002), which starred Salman.

It was a closely guarded secret. Due to some reason, Amisha patel replaced her. Thereafter, all was never well between Salman and Kareena.

They have met on several occasions after that, but it was formal at best." Only a few days ago, Sallu and Bebo cleared the air while shooting for Bodyguard in Pune and are now back to being real good friends.

Raveena trusts Karisma's doctor

Raveena Tondon was fighting a bout of food poisoning. And she was spotted at the clinic of Dr RK Agarwal, two days after Kareena Kapoor got treated for a similar ailment.

One knows there is no love lost between Raveena and the Kapoor siblings -- Kareena and Karisma. But when it comes to choosing their doctor both have implicit faith in the same general physician.

Anyway, what it is with these B-town beauties who hardly eat, yet they end up getting food poisoned ever so often.

It's fun to be with Maddy: Kangna

Where others credit their genes, godfathers, godmothers and Lady Luck for their first foray into films, guess who gets the credit for Kangna? Her curls!

"When I entered the industry, I was very thin, and had curly hair, and just that look was unique and set me apart." Curls straightened out, she continues, "Other than that, I think the films I started out with were performance-oriented ones. As an outsider to the industry, you take what you get. I was lucky  Gangster did well commercially and many awards came my way. Had that not been the case, I may not have had a second chance."

Today, Kangna can let her curls down, smug in the knowledge that she's on the wish-list of many a producer, director, and all those actors who've a say on who their leading lady should be. Her latest outing sees her getting married to the dishy Maddy in Tanu Weds Manu So, how was the chemistry with him? "He was a lot of fun on the sets. Maddy's from a non-film family, very educated, and I'm sure if he hadn't been an actor, he would've been a high-ranking Army official. There's so much one can talk with him outside of films."

What about the sizzle and spark? "To play a character like Manu, you need a level of maturity and security as an actor, which Maddy has in abundance. It's because of that the film works," she says, refusing to be drawn into it any further.

What she'd much rather talk about is how food played a big part in them hitting it off. Says this foodie, "There were a lot of foodies on our sets, and because we were shooting in the north Indian towns of UP and Punjab, there was extraordinarily good food available all around. Everyone on the sets was a foodie, and that includes Maddy, director Aanand Rai, producer Shailesh Singh and me. I have memories of Shuklaji's chaat house, kulfi stores... even a stall that sold great badam milk!"

So, is Tanu like her, given that Kangna too hails from a small town? "Not just me, but any girl will find some bit of herself in Tanu. Tanu's from a small town, but she's not a village belle. She's very bold, and it shows in her attitude."

With so much happening for Kangna in Bollywood, will Kollywood (Dhaam Dhoom seems so long ago) have to wait awhile? "I'll do any cinema if the script is good. I think very highly of south Indian cinema."

For someone who's done many an intense, high-strung role, one would think that serious, layered characters would be more her thing. But she surprises by saying that goofy oddball roles are what she enjoys more. "Comedies are certainly more fun."

The girl with the curly hair has her future all ironed out. After the nuptial bliss in TWM, she's going to be seen in Double Dhamaal, Rascals, and Game. From the hills to the arc lights of Bollywood, this is one girl who's come a long way. And going much longer.

Never too late to believe in yourself: Akki

Never mind 2010, everybody's had their share of failures and losses, but how many have remained as cheerful and sunny at the start of 2011 as has Akshay kumar? The Khiladi, who has always taken bad karma in his long stride, has reason to believe this will be his year.

For the buzz is that Patiala House, his February 11 release directed by Nikhil Advani, which Akshay's Hari Om Entertainment Co. has co-produced with T-Series and two other banners, is a film to be looked forward to. Akshay himself says, "I don't know what the box office will say, but it is the best movie that I have been part of in the last eight years.

I have always told people to leave their brains behind in my comic films, but here I would say — bring your brains and your hearts to the cinema." On this upbeat note, BT spoke to the actor at home just after he had finished offering thanks to Lord Ganesh, the presiding deity. Excerpts from the interview...

Bollywood believes 2010 was bad for you...
I had a blockbuster, a flop and two average films. For any other actor it would be a fairly good year, but for me, where people expect a blockbuster with every film, it was just average. I have been making movies for 22 years and every year has just made me better at my job and at making money for this industry.

What do you look for in scripts when signing films?
Firstly, I look for it's commercial ability; then I calculate whether it is possible for my producers and distributors to make profit if not at least break even; then, I look for what I love and that's the reason why movies are made — an idea that grips you and makes you want to translate that on the big screen.

Patiala House appears more promising than all your films of 2010...
It's a bit like my own story. As Indians, our bond with our family is very strong and the battle between respect for our family and our personal ambitions and desires is common in every man and woman. Patiala House is a feel good story about how it's never too late to believe in yourself... and the thrills of how an underdog finally succeeds.

What do you want from this year?
I pray I entertain my audiences to great satisfaction, I'm hoping my son is honoured with his next belt in Karate, I want to make my wife even happier. I know 2011 has a lot of high voltage physical impact for me so I pray I get through it pain free and safely. But, most of all, I'm looking forward to creating even more memories... not only in Hindi cinema, but in my family life also. The latter will be a greater achievement, for nowadays, fatherhood comes before Bollywood.

What happened to the Action King in you?
I'm happy to say I have finally been given an action script that I will be starting in October if all goes well. I'm thrilled that I will be back with the kind of raw action that fans have been wanting from me. But, trust me, a good action script is hard to come by. I'm sorry for the wait but all good things come when you're patient...

All's well between SRK & Sallu’s family

Sharukh khan and Salman Khan's tiff seems to be going on forever.

However, it looks like their families have decided to not fan the issue any further and continue being cordial with each other.

Just recently, we heard Gauri khan and  salman khan talking to each other at Sohail Khan's birthday bash and now, we spotted SRK warming up to Arbaz khan and  Malaika arora khan at a recent event.

At the 56th Idea  Filmfare awards that was held on Saturday night, Arbaaz and Malaika were greeted with a warm hug by none other than Salman's friend-turned-foe Shah Rukh. And it didn't stop at that, before going to their seats, Arbaaz, SRK and Malaika talked for a good while.

Later into the award function when Arbaaz' 'Dabangg' won in the Best Film category and he was being chased by the paparazzi for a byte, the Khan rushed through his moment of glory. And while we were wondering about why Arbaaz was in such a rush, we learnt that Shah Rukh and Madhuri were scheduled to perform just then. Guess Arbaaz didn't want to miss cheering for SRK.

With this new development, we once again hope that the two warring Khans reunite soon... Inshaallah.....

Arunodoy Singh, Aditi Rao set new kissing record

Move over Mallika Sherawat, Arunoday Singh and Aditi rao are here! The couple recently broke Mallika Sherawat's kissing record. Mallika, who boasted and Aditi Rao seen in 'Delhi 6' may just set a record of sorts if the Cabout kissing 17 times in the film Khwahish has now been silenced. Arunoday's Singh, who has indulged in some passionate love making in 'Mirch', ensors pass their 22 kisses in Sudhir Mishra's 'Yeh Saali Zindagi'.

Sudhir Mishra likes to say it as it is. "If we are showing a couple in love, I'd rather show them kissing at a moment when they should be kissing, than have them dancing and shaking their hips to a song," he said. Arunoday and Aditi play a young couple based out of  Delhi and have their fair share of quarrels and love.

While in real life, Arunoday is the grandson of politician Arjun singh Aditi Rao is married to actor Satyadeep Mishra. At first, the two ators weren't very sure about how their near and dear ones would react to the kising scenes, but Mishra's direction we hear, has left them breathing easy! However, more than their families now, Mishra is anxious about the Censor Board's verdict. The censors, we hear, dislike even the title of the movie, but Sudhir Mishra, like we said earlier, likes to show it as it is.

Preity, Rani switch places

Times change and people change with it. This was pretty obvious at the film fare awardsrecently, where the stars came together.

Rani mukherji who was always comfortable in Indian traditional wear, wore a purple western dress and seemed quite at home in it. On the other hand, the gorgeous and bubbly Preity Zinta, who always dressed in gowns and something typically western, settled to dress herself in an Indian sari - from Manish Malhotra's collection - this time round. "It took all of five minutes to wear it, she said, urging us to believe her.

On the other hand, the more demure and woman of a few words, Rani Mukerji was all over the place. While the once upon a time perky  Preity Zinta seemed more business like - of the 'will-speak-when-I'm-spoken-to' types. While Rani has lost a little weight, Preity seems to have gained some. However, not all is hunky dory in the world of films for these two actresses. Rani Mukerji gives it her best shot with the random few movies coming her way, but entrepreneur Preity Zinta who doesn't seem to be getting even those random few has now stepped on the television bandwagon and is trying to make it happen.

But Preity isn't shying away from the truth. She candidly said, "I think I should campaign for the Missing-In-Action Award. I haven't been around for a while now!" Well, with a new television innings and a few odd balls at the IPL, we think Preity is managing to pull along pretty well. And as for Rani, we think her performance in'No One Killed Jessica' should get her back on those nomination lists and maybe even win her some awards. Looks like someone should be campaigning for the 'Back-In-Action' award,.....

Dev invites Salman, Hrithik

Dev anand is all set to hold a grand premiere for the revival of his 1961 film Hum dono in colour.

From his close friend and admirer Dev Anand is all set to hold a grand premiere for the revival of his 1961 film Hum Duno in colour. to the Bachan family, Dev Anand has personally invited all B-town biggies.

Our source said, "Dev saab wanted to call all his close associates and all the stars he appreciates. He wanted to interact with this new generation of actors, so he made it a point to call each one of them personally.

Be it Deepika or Sonam, Salman or Hrithik, he has invited everyone. Dev saab was very keen to invite Rajnikanth too but apparently he is in the Himalayas on a vacation."

Dev Anand said, "Hum Dono is a film which was released 50 years ago. This is the generation that might never have watched a black and white film.

There are people from Bollywood who would have heard about Hum Dono but never seen it. That's why I wanted to call everyone.

Ranveer loses out to Anushka

Ok, we have been sick and tired of reading about tales of their 'chemistry', yup, we are talking about the  band baja baraat co-stars  Ranveer singh and Anushka sharma

And now we have one more to add to it and this is straight from the horse's mouth. Apparently, recently while shooting for a special segment of a celebrity chat show, Ranveer tried to outdo his leggy girl-pal by trying hard to bribe fans to respond in his favour! He chuckles, "I shot for a special segment for koffee with karan, where I had to take the views from passers-by.

I wanted to outdo Anushka, I wanted to bring her back to earth after her three hits in a row. I tried my best to convince the viewers to answer in my favour but all of them had only good things to say about her. They all chose her debut film over mine. The only saving grace were a few college girls who cheered for me." And if that was not all, Ranveer has a message for his female fans. He requests them not to physically assault him! Awww, poor Ranveer, looks like both his co-star and his female fans are keeping him on his toes.

Priyanka warms up to Kareena

Mumbai Mirror reported on December 21 on ceasefire between Kareena and Priyanka. At the Mumbai Police Mela organised then, Piggy made the first move and called Bebo on stage. A six-year-long cold war ended.

Technically, Bebo should have made the second move but it seems Piggy is keener. So be it. At the Filmfare Awards rehearsals on Friday night, Priyanka went up to Bebo and gave her a warm hug. Kareena, who was scheduled to rehearse after Piggy, had to wait for a long time because a lot of changes were being added to Piggy's performance. Kareena was apparently getting very restless in the interim and she walked down to the rehearsal hall.

Furious for having had to wait for so long, Bebo was apparently pacing up and down the hall. In a little while, she even had to rush to Pune for the shoot of Bodyguard.

Just then Piggy entered the hall and both actresses started talking about the schedule of their practice sessions. Suddenly, Priyanka took a step ahead and hugged Kareena.

Those who witnessed this were mighty impressed with Priyanka's second attempt at warming up with Kareena. Let's not forget, Kareena was once dating her current boyfriend Shahid Kapoor.

Kareena reciprocated with a smile. Soon after Priyanka left the hall to resume practice on stage and Kareena stayed back and waited patiently for her turn.

Patch-ups between heroines are rare and hence welcome in Bollywood. A few days ago we reported on Priyanka and Katrina hugging at an event, actresses who were rumoured to have been at loggerheads once. How about hugging Deepika Padukone next, Katrina?

Ranbir's mr.congenial

Ranbir kapoor brought the house down as host of The 56th idea filmfare awards, thanks to his naughty sense of humour.

The actor even got into the clothes of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan from Guzaarish and we must say looked pretty if not prettier than Ash.

However what made Ranbir stand out was his crowd pleasing demeanor. After the show got over we spotted few PYT's chasing after a breathless Ranbir for an autograph. To our surprise, the actor who looked terribly tired obliged, ignoring his exhaustion.

There was no hesitation on the face or the body language. Ranbir even posed for a picture!

Gasping for breath, Ranbir revealed, "As a kid, I saw people thronging outside our house in order to see my parents. Due to busy schedules and various other reasons my father used to be unable to attend to each and every fan. I used to always look at the disappointed faces of those fans and tell myself, if I become an actor I would never leave a single fan of mine unattended."

That is what makes Ranbir the most pleasing man, isn't it?

Early years
Shania Twain was born Eilleen Regina Edwards in Windsor, Ontario, daughter of Clarence and Sharon Edwards. Her parents divorced when she was two, and her mother then moved with Eilleen and her sister Jill to Timmins, Ontario, where she married Jerry Twain, an Ojibwa. He adopted the girls, legally changing their last name to Twain. Because of her connection to her stepfather, in the past, people had presumed Twain's ancestry was Ojibwa, but she stated in an interview that her biological father was part Cree. Through her mother she is a descendant of Zacharie Cloutier. Her maternal grandmother, Eileen Pearce, emigrated from Newbridge, Kildare, Ireland.
One of five children, Eilleen Twain had a hard childhood in Timmins. Her parents earned little, and there was often a shortage of food in the household. At one point, while Jerry was at work, her mother drove the rest of the family 425 miles (684 km) to a Toronto homeless shelter for assistance. She did not confide her situation to school authorities, fearing they might break up the family. In the remote, rugged community, she learned to hunt and to chop wood. Aside from working at an Ontario McDonald's restaurant, Twain began to earn money by singing in local clubs and bars from a very young age to support her family. She was singing in bars starting at the age of eight to try to make ends meet, often earning twenty dollars between midnight and one in the morning performing for remaining customers after the bar had finished serving. Although she has expressed a dislike for singing in such a smoky atmosphere at such a young age, Shania believes that this was her performing arts school on the road to becoming a successful singer. Twain has said of the ordeal, "My deepest passion was music and it helped. There were moments when I thought 'I hate this'. I hated going into bars and being with drunks. But I loved the music and so I survived".
Twain wrote her first songs at the age of ten, Is Love a Rose and Just Like the Storybooks which were fairy tales in rhyme. As a child, Twain has been described by a close childhood friend Kenny Derasp as "a very serious kid who spent a lot of time in her room." The art of creating, of actually writing songs, "was very different from performing them and became progressively important".
In the early 1980s, Twain spent some time working on her father's reforestation business in northern Ontario, a business that the family was heavily involved in and employed some 75 Ojibwe and Cree workers. Although the work was very demanding and the pay very low, Twain has spoken of her experience, "I loved the feeling of being stranded. I'm not afraid of being in my own environment, being physical, working hard. I was very strong, I walked miles and miles every day and carried heavy loads of trees. You can't shampoo, use soap or deodorant, or makeup, nothing with any scent; you have to bathe and rinse your clothes in the lake. It was a very rugged existence, but I was very creative and I would sit alone in the forest with my dog and a guitar and would just write songs".
Music career
Career as Eilleen Twain
At 13, Eilleen Twain, the future "Shania" Twain, was invited to perform on CBC television's Tommy Hunter Show. While attending Timmins High and Vocational School in Timmins, she was the singer for a local band called "Longshot" which covered Top 40 music.[citation needed]
After graduating from Timmins High in July 1983, Twain was eager to expand her musical horizons. After the demise of her band Longshot, Twain was approached by a covers band led by Diane Chase called "Flirt" and toured all over Ontario. She began taking singing lessons from Toronto-based coach Ian Garrett and often in not having the money to pay for her lessons would clean his house in payment. In the autumn of 1984 Twain's talents were noticed by a Toronto DJ Stan Campbell who wrote about her in a Country Music News article, "Eileen possesses a powerful voice with an impressive range. She has the necessary drive, ambition and positive attitude to achieve her goals". Campbell happened to be making an album by Canadian musician (and present-day CKTB radio personality) Tim Denis at the time and Twain featured on the backing vocals on the song Heavy on the Sunshine. Campbell later took Twain to Nashville to record some demos, which Twain found particularly difficult to finance. Around this time Twain became acquainted with a regional country singer Mary Bailey who had had some country chart success in 1976. Bailey had seen her perform in Sudbury, Ontario, saying "I saw this little girl up on stage with a guitar and it absolutely blew me away. She performed Willie Nelson's "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" and Hank Williams' "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry". Her voice reminded me of Tanya Tucker, it had strength and character, a lot of feeling. She's a star, she deserves an opportunity". Bailey later said "She sang a few songs that she had written, and I thought to myself, this kid is like nineteen years old, where does she get this? This is from a person who's lived sixty years".
Lake Kenogami where Twain spent much time practicing in 1985.
Mary Bailey bought the contract from Stan Campbell and Twain moved into Bailey's home on Lake Kenogami where she practiced her music every day for hours. In the fall of 1985, Bailey took Twain down to Nashville to stay with a friend, record producer Tony Migliore, who at the time was producing an album for fellow Canadian singer Kelita Haverland and Twain featured on the backing vocals to the song Too Hot to Handle. She also demoed songs with Cyril Rawson but without success, partly due to Twain's wish to become a rock singer, not a country artist and after five months she returned to Canada and moved in with Bailey in a flat in downtown Kirkland Lake.
There she met a rock keyboardist Eric Lambier and drummer Randy Yurko and formed a new band, moving three months later to Bowmanville, near Toronto. In late summer 1986 Mary Bailey had arranged Twain to meet John Kim Bell, a half Mohawk, half American conductor who had close contacts with the directors of the Canadian Country Music Association. Bell recognised Twain's ability as well as looks and the two began secretly dating, despite their clash of backgrounds. In the fall of 1986 Twain continued to express her desire to be a pop or rock singer rather than country, which led to her falling out with Mary Bailey for two years and was not met with any success. Her first break came on February 8, 1987 when Bell staged a fundraiser for the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation at the Roy Thompson Hall in Toronto where Twain performed with Broadway star Bernadette Peters, jazz guitarist Don Ross and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Her performance received little acclaim but it convinced Bell, who loathed pop music, that Twain should stay well away from it and concentrate on country music.
On November 1, 1987, Twain's mother and adoptive father died in a car accident. Twain took care of her siblings, moving with her half-brothers Mark and Darryl and half-sister Carrie Ann to Huntsville, Ontario, where she supported them by earning money performing at the nearby Deerhurst Resort.
